I needed it today and, having used it, and other extensions of abbreviated quotes from other church fathers, I think I'm being accused of not benefiting anyone and of lacking grace.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19505042.post-84307436449712728472008-09-09T14:31:00.000-07:002008-09-09T14:31:00.000-07:00Thank you so much for this. It gave me much food for thought and was particularly interesting in the context of my having just put down 'A Thousand Splendid Suns' by Hosseini.
Rachel at Re vis.e Re formRev R Marszalekhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01831340057673771787noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19505042.post-19445368829077186602008-09-09T12:22:00.000-07:002008-09-09T12:22:00.000-07:00Your piece ended with these words:"the will of God...Your piece ended with these words:

"the will of God the Father, and of the Son, is indivisible"

What the 'subordinationist' approach to marriage misses - dangerously - is the importance of the will of husband and wife becoming 'indivisible'. This is best achieved by mutuality and not by command!

Thank you for your blog.Peter Carrellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09535218286799156659noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19505042.post-59509944667161548252008-09-09T00:13:00.000-07:002008-09-09T00:13:00.000-07:00I must say i don't get the whole subordinationist ...I must say i don't get the whole subordinationist thing. people round here (Sydney) spout it as if it's a given, but most of them just throw a couple of proof texts around out of context. I find no room for subordinationism in the Athanasian Creed, which must represent the consensus of the early church. Further, it's logical nonsense. If God, in all 3 persons is all power, all love, all wisdom etc etc, how could the 3 persons not be totally at one in what they will and desire? And if they are in total agreement, then the word subordination, which in human terms means surrendering your will, desires and intentions to somebody else, is meaningless. Furthermore, the scripture compares the marriage relationship to that between Christ and the church. There is no logical connection to comparing the relationship of husband and wife to the eternal relationship between the Father and the Son, rather than anything else, and something slightly weird about comparing the marital two-become-one to two thirds of the Trinity.Lynnehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10982043538182690871noreply@blogger.com
