Nice to see you blogging again Suzanne. Been missing you.

Never mind the absence of the pronoun "he" in that verse, perhaps Mark would better like the clarity of Surah 3:34 "Men are the maintainers of women because Allah has made some of them to excel others and because they spend out of their property; the good women are therefore obedient, guarding the unseen as Allah has guarded; and (as to) those on whose part you fear desertion, admonish them, and leave them alone in the sleeping-places and beat them; then if they obey you, do not seek a way against them; surely Allah is High, Great."

Exegetes?

Driscoll is pure eisegesis, he obviously does not even think to look at what the Greek text says, instead relying on a masculinist translation and we know where that can end up.

It is a good thing for Driscoll his followers are not scholars.

I guess mommy's are needed to clean house, change diapers, prepare food and make daddy happy.

Context must be a foreign word for him that he doesn't wish to explore in order not to be swayed from his personal goals.

Greek must also be foreign to him since there is no "his" in this verse at all. It simply isn't there.

Many believers are more than happy to have others do their Biblical study and thinking for them.

Critical thinking is hard work, and face it, many are just not up to it.

If they were, they'd realize that there's a world of difference between Adam's original purpose and what Joni Mitchell called "The Devil's bargain..."

I got to this part and stopped reading...

"Furthermore, it is completely impossible to read the Bible and wind up with the inane idea that a Christian father can be a stay-at-home dad while mom goes to work. Anyone who thinks these things are acceptable is by definition worldly."

I was in a toystore yesterday and saw a dad with a three year old. He was so in tune with his kid and gently managing his behaviour in such a calm way. I thought that he seemed like a dad who spent a lot of time with his kid, perhaps even sll day or at least doing much of the childcare.

Brad, I have a difficult time liking MD.
It's not that he is of a different opinion that rubs me the wrong way. I'm around people with different opinions all day long and don't have a problem with most of them.

It's his self-righteousness and idea that he can define what is worldly and that everything is black and white, and he gets to define black and white, and he gets to define what the Bible says is black and white when his understanding of the Word is over-the-top shallow, narrow, and self-serving.

I could say more but will stop here.

Some Protestant declarations and fiats are more detestable than all the Papal "bull."
