Jimmy Carter has spoken out again. In case some don't understand how he attributes wife abuse to religious leaders, let me cite Bruce Ware on this topic,
- The very wise and good plan of God, of male headship, is sought to be overturned as women now, as sinners, want instead to have their way, instead of submitting to their husbands, to do what they would like to do, and seek to work to have their husbands fulfill their will, rather than serving them;
and their husbands on their part, because they are sinners, now respond to that threat to their authority either by being abusive, which is, of course, one of the ways men can respond when their authority is challenged, or more commonly by becoming passive, acquiescing and simply not asserting the leadership they ought to as men in their homes and churches.

“In places like the Democratic Republic of Congo, it’s just a customary right of privilege of soldiers to rape women with impunity. In some countries, it’s not even a crime to rape a woman. In many other nations, women can’t have property ownership, they can’t inherit their own children if their husband dies, like in Saudi Arabia, they can’t even drive an automobile,” said Carter.
“In Christian communities, as well, there is gross discrimination against women. Our people at the Carter Center believe that women should be treated equally in the eyes of God and that includes Islam and also Christianity and other religions. But, as you know, [in] the Catholic Church, they practically worship the Virgin Mary, but won’t let a woman be a priest,” he added.
He made these comments in an interview with a VOA reporter:

(Unfortunately, there are other ways this is being spun by certain online news reports and by bloggers. They claim this is an AP report, but it is not. They don't give any reporter's name. They focus on President Carter's statements about leaders. But they do not mention his statements about the women who are courageous in spite of these political and religious leaders. Their headlines are misleading and are hurtful, not helpful.

Well I never agreed with his economic policies but he is dead on with this.
If any of you have ever met Bruce Ware face to face, you might have a better understanding of why Patriarchy is so very important to him.
That quote made me want to smack my head against something hard. Male headship is the "wise and good plan of God?" Last I checked, this whole notion of female submission was as a result of sin (see Genesis 3:16) and was not a part of God's original creation. Bad theology.
