The Tornado, John Piper and the TNIV
On the very same day that John Piper's sermon against the NIV and TNIV was uploaded onto the internet, a tornado hit Minneapolis. Can it be a coincidence?

Suzanne, You are too funny. But this is a classic example of his own teaching and where it leads one.
Suzanne, you just might be on to something. Small minds jump to big conclusions.
This story brings back memories of 1984 when York Minster here in England was struck by lightning just after the consecration as Bishop of Durham of the controversial David Jenkins. The question asked then was, if God meant to punish Jenkins, why was he three days late?
As a member of the ELCA who was saddened and offended by Piper's ridiculous comments, I thank you for this. It almost made me smile out loud.
Lutherans don't laugh out loud much. Garrison Keillor has us pegged. We are a quiet people.
Now I have to get a towel to wipe off my computer screen!
Perhaps you guys know that I come from the same church background as Keillor and have a great affinity for his humour.
It seems to be a misrepresentation of Piper's sermon to claim that it was a "sermon against the NIV and TNIV." There is a 1 minute and 55 second clip of the sermon on translation issues out of a lengthy sermon. That hardly qualifies as a sermon "against" the NIV and TNIV. Moreover, I assume that you're speaking tongue and cheek when you ask if it is a coincidence that a tornado hit Minneapolis the same day his sermon was uploaded. I certainly hope so anyways. Either way, it's not funny.
I don't agree with everything Pastor Piper says, and when I do agree with him, I try to do so critically. But I do advocate strongly that we be fair and accurately represent others, especially those with whom we disagree. I post this comment simply because I feel that some misrepresentation has taken place here. I applaud you for examining Piper's position critically and inviting discussion of translation issues. However, a post like the one to which I'm responding here does not benefit discussion, promote serious thinking, or edify God's church. Perhaps I'm quibbling now over an innocent comment posted in jest. If so, I apologize. May God bless you richly in all you do for him.
Yes, this was posted in jest. It was only the youtube clip which was in its entirety against the TNIV, not the rest of the sermon.
I am not really in jest however. I believe that Piper commits a wrongful action against his brothers in the Lord for signing the statement against the TNIV. I have posted on Piper's site about this and have emailed him my open letter, but, of course, no reply,
I am very disappointed that adults can behave the way he does over the TNIV.
