Greek and Hebew Reader's Bible

There is a new and very smooth Greek and Hebrew hypertext online Bible thanks to John Dyer. Click on the Bible reference and you can type directly on top of it in an unobtrusive dialogue box. Nifty. Mouseover any word for a definition.

Each word is linked to its Strong's number and a definition from Thayer's lexicon, 1886. Its a beautiful resource for general reading, but it must be noted that the lexicon is dated. Here is a post by Hall Harris at Bible.org which mentions the Thayer's lexicon. The site which used to be available at Zhubert was linked into the Liddell Scott Jones lexicon at Perseus for some time. I love sites like this and I do use them, but I like to know which lexicon I am using and what it represents. Many thanks to John Dyer for a beautiful application for learning Greek!

I can't figure out how to get out of Romans 3!

You have to be persistent, Bob, very peristent.

At the bottom in fine type is a link to his blog and on his blog Ben. W. asked the same question, so we are all in good company, eh? Just click on Rom.3 and write on top. It will open an invisible text box. It is a beautiful application.

The problem with this site is that the Greek text it uses is Tischendorf's dated 1869-1872, therefore without the benefit of 140 years of rapid advance in manuscript discoveries and textual criticism. Maybe Dyer thinks that for copyright reasons that is the best he can do, but he is wrong.

Thanks Peter,

You're right. This site is basically a tool for customizing vocab support for learning to read Greek. It is not a resource of authoritative text or lexicon, nor is it intended to be.
