What does wifely submission look like?

We understand that CBMW teaches that men may have to "reestablish rulership" over their wife, and "exert leadership." This is a proactive attempt to ensure that the wife does submit. The language for leadership of the wife, is similar to that of the children, and the question may be asked by the husband "how do I enforce subordination?" The husband may resort to punitive measures.

But what does CBMW say that submission of the wife looks like? Here is Bruce Ware again, cited by Jeff Robinson on the Gender Blog,
"The level of Jesus' submission to the Father, then, is complete, comprehensive, all-inclusive an absolute. There are no exceptions to his submission and obedience, for he never once sins at any point throughout all his life."
David Kotter then explains the relevance this has to a wife,
The wife is called to imitate the submission of Jesus Christ to the Father. Jesus Christ is so great that both a man and woman together are needed to display his glorious leadership and servanthood.
Imagine if something of that nature, as seen in the first quote, were enforced on a wife. We can only imagine that in the dark world of perversion, a human being might impose this on another human being in this way. But it would be psychotic, not glorious.

However, CBMW constantly insists that this submission must be joyful, voluntary and fully endorsed by the wife. She must smile while having her brains scooped out. This incredibly twisted and deeply troubling abuse is going on under the name of Christianity.

When will Christians stand up and repudiate this infringement on the humanity of women? I am deeply concerned that an organization is allowed to continue counselling people to impose psychological damage on women with impunity.

I know that some complementarians say that total mental and physical control of a wife by a husband would be "sick" and yes it is sick. What are they doing to eradicate this teaching?

Yes, I can clearly recall all the times in the Bible where God the Father tells Jesus: "Submit to Me - NOW!!! Don't make Me have to open a can of Whoop-Ass on You!"

So, in other words, the husband gets to play 'god' in his role and she must bear the cross in her role.

No wonder they teach this stuff!

I looked at the links. They say the wife is to imitate Christ when he "did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but emptied himself, taking the form of a servant."

But the main "wifely submission" verse says it's the HUSBAND who's supposed to imitate Christ! It's the husband who's supposed to love the wife as Christ loved the church when He "gave Himself" for her.

Seems like these men want only the authority of Christ. But the Bible says that what they are to imitate is the submission of Christ.

They've twisted the Ephesians 5 passage around backwards. And apparently they've done it so that they can play god to their wives.

"Submission" as a Christian doctrine is not about bowing to authority-- it's about voluntary yielding to another for their good. These men claim wives don't want to submit. No, it's THEY who don't want to submit. So they twist the Scriptures around until submission becomes something ugly.

These men believe that men should submit to their bosses and pastors. That is not quite the same as total comprehensive obedience 24/7. I dunno.

Interesting how they leave out the other part of that passage about giving up His Glory in order to become a lowly man.

They mangle Phil 2 to fit their paradigm.

Only the serpent, that eternal nemesis of the seed of Eve, could think that hollowing out a woman's very soul is a good thing. This is Mormonism, the JWs, Islam, and every other cult and religion but Christianity.

We need to renounce such teachings and teachers as antichristian. The "Demand" is the first step, but we need to keep walking.

What they seem to forget is that Jesus was in on planning the plan of redemption before He came to earth. That plan was in place before humans were created, and was not devised by the Father dictating to the Son. If Jesus came out of obedience to the Father, that greatly detracts from His supposed love for us.

If, however, He came because He volunteered to come because of His love for us, and not through any demand of the Father, that is indeed great love. And that is the love the Bible talks about.

So when as a man he submitted to God, He was actually submitting to Himself and what He had planned for Himself before He came to earth as a human. .
