Jesus Girls

Read this book review and the comments for some insight into how bizarre and painful it can be to be a woman in an evangelical Christian community. Some of the comments are to make you cry.

I've only made it thru half the comments, but I have it bookmarked to read the rest. It makes me glad that the evangelicalism I grew up with just gave lip service to all of this. It also makes very glad that I finally made the leap and left the evangelical fold last year. I am a very happy Episcopalian.

Thank you, Suzanne, for this link. A friend ended up ordering the book. It arrived in my friend's mailbox yesterday. I picked it up to look through it and could hardly put it down, even way after I should have been asleep. The stories are touching and well written. Some resonate and put words to some of my own experiences, some are similar to stories I've watched and heard about in the lives of others. They are all very well written and compelling and force me to grapple with things in helpful ways.
